In our library all the non-fiction
is shelved together, the easy to read and the not as easy to read. All ages of
children are invited to look in this section for some really neat books that tell you all
kinds of REAL information and show you lots of pictures and photographs.
The call numbers in
this section start with a number. This number comes from the Dewey
Decimal Classification system. Melvyl Dewey made up this system a hundred
years ago, and it works pretty good to help you find information. (Click the BACK Button to return here!)
Look at the wall
above the bookshelves to find the main classification numbers (100,200, 300, etc.).
Then look at the labels on each book shelf to see what number comes first
on that shelf.
Here is an example of
one of the call numbers in non-fiction:
398.2
Gri
The 398.2 tells us that the book is in the 300 section, or where the fairy
tales are kept.
The Gri tells us that the Brothers Grimm wrote
the book. |
